Hydraulic winch system for valve opening and closing of oil pipeline

The control modes of valves on oil pipeline are manual, motor-driven, electro-hydraulic and electro-pneumatic. This paper describes a method of hydraulic actuation of valves for opening and closing the introduced DN700 flat gate valve.
Figure 4-12 shows the schematic diagram of the Hydraulic System for this drive mode. The system is a hydraulic system of pump-one-cylinder closed oil circuit and the actuator is a double piston rod Hydraulic Cylinder 11 which drives the flat gate valve 12. The oil source is bidirectional fixed displacement hydraulic pump 2. The direction of rotation and the direction of suction and discharge ports of the bidirectional fixed displacement pump 2 are changed by the change of rotation direction of the motor 1, thus the direction of movement of the hydraulic cylinder is changed and the gate valve 12 is opened or closed. Hydraulic control check valves 9 and 10 form a hydraulic lock to prevent unauthorized persons from switching on and off the gate valves privately. Manual fixed displacement hydraulic pump 7 is used as standby oil source when the system is power-off. The oil circuit conversion between hydraulic pump 2 and manual pump 7 driven by motor 1 is realized by three-position and six-way manual change-over valve 8. Two symmetrically arranged one-way throttle valves 6 and 13 are used to regulate the opening and closing speed of the hydraulic cylinder, i.e. the gate valve. The tank 4 is used to refuel the system. The upper and lower pipes of the closed oil circuit are provided with relief valves 5 and 14 respectively to set the working pressure of the system. Before the hydraulic pump runs, the entire system must be filled with oil.
When the motor 1 drives the hydraulic pump 2, the change-over valve 8 is in the middle position. If the oil port above the hydraulic pump 2 is the pressure port at this time, the pressure oil of the hydraulic pump enters the upper chamber of the hydraulic cylinder 11 through the throttle valve, valve 8 and the hydraulic check valve 9 in valve 6. At the same time, the hydraulic check valve 10 is opened and the piston rod downward drive gate valve is closed. The oil in the lower chamber of the hydraulic cylinder is discharged to the oil suction port under the pump 2 through the check valve 10, valve 8 and valve 13. If the direction of rotation of the motor and the hydraulic pump changes so that the oil port under the hydraulic pump is the pressure port, the pressure oil enters the lower chamber of the hydraulic cylinder and the gate valve is closed by the upward drive of the piston rod. The reciprocating speed of the cylinder depends on the opening of the throttle valves 6 and 13.
In case of power failure, manual hydraulic pump 7 is required to make the system work. The change-over valve 8 is switched to the upper position. The pressure oil of manual pump 7 enters the upper chamber of cylinder 11 through valve 8 and hydraulic check valve 9 and leads to hydraulic check valve 10. The oil of the lower chamber of hydraulic cylinder is discharged to the suction port of pump 7 through valve 10 and valve 8, and the downward drive gate valve of piston rod is closed. Conversely, the change-over valve is switched to the upper position, and the hydraulic pump supplies oil to the lower chamber of the cylinder, so that the piston rod drive gate valve of the cylinder opens.
When the gate valve switch state does not need to be changed, the commutation valve 8 is in the neutral position and the hydraulic cylinder is locked in the established position by the hydraulic lock.
(2) Technical characteristics
1) The valve is driven by closed hydraulic system with compact structure, small size, smooth opening and closing, no noise, adjustable speed and automatic overload protection. Compared with open hydraulic control system, oil tank and many valves are omitted, and pipes, control valves, etc. used in the system can be positioned on or near the hydraulic cylinder. The hydraulic system and the valves to be opened and closed can be integrated.
2) The system has redundant structure, which can be operated electrically or manually to solve the operation problems after power failure. Hydraulic locking prevents unauthorized personnel from opening and closing the gate valve.
3) Hydraulic system is a closed system with oil inlet throttle and speed regulation for fixed displacement pump. The bi-directional speed of hydraulic cylinder and gate valve can be adjusted according to requirements.
4) Such hydraulic actuated valves should not be switched on and off frequently and should be fully open or fully closed in the best operating condition.
